This past weekend I went away with my two oldest friends. We grew up near mystic and spent a lot of time there in high school so it is always fun to go back. I got a lot of questions about what to do there so I decided to do a blog post. If you live in Fairfield county, you can easily do a day trip here or even from nyc it’s a little over two hours. So many people always come to mystic in the summer but I personally like fall best.
Two of my favorite things to do when I visit this part of the state are the vineyards. There is Jonathan Edwards and Saltwater Vineyard. They always have events with live music and tastings and they are so beautiful in the fall. They also have food trucks or you can pack a picnic.
Stonington is the cutest little borough with lots of great stores and cafes. I love Social Coffee Shop (owned by my uncle), Milagro has the best margaritas and Dog Watch Cafe is so cute because dogs are welcome and you can sit out on the water.
Mystic is busier than Stonington and there is more to do there. They have a lot of restaurants and shops as well. I love The Oyster Club which is more upscale and they have a more laid back outdoor seating place called The Tree House that overlooks downtown Mystic. They also own The Engine Room which has the best burgers, industrial decor and a really fun vibe. Bravo Bravo has always been a staple in downtown Mystic known for always having great food. They just moved to a bigger space and did a beautiful renovation. Young Bun Donuts are handmade everyday and sell out fast but they are heavenly and worth waking up extra early to devour one.
The one stop I always make every fall is Clyde’s Cider Mill located in Mystic Village. They have been making their own cider since 1881. You can watch how they make it and they have a cute little shop that sells delicious apple cider donuts along with many other heavenly treats. It gets very busy here so it is best to go during the week or really early in the morning.
There is so much to do for families in Mystic such as the seaport and the aquarium but I wrote this post based on going on an adult getaway. I’m happy to answer any other questions or give suggestions if you have/want any. I know I’m bias but I always loving going back there. I will always have a special place in my heart for that area and it always feels like home in a way.
